Today I got the update notification to the latest snap release
22.0.6261.39. So I have tried that one with a fresh profile and my old
one and fortunately both are working now. So I guess the issue has been

I could not reproduce this for the 48x48 size icons. The only one that
showed up as monochrome was the very tiny. Could you please see if this
is still an issue with a supported release.

In addition to above details, we were able to boot the qcow2 cloud image
