To manage notifications
I installed a PPA that served as a workaround, until an update this
morning. Now there is no type-ahead and the PPA does not work. One
more vote for a type-ahead.

For Ubuntu 18.04 on ThinkPad-11e, kernel version 4.15.0-38-generic:
A) comment #44 and #45 solves the issue completely.
B) comment #16 works temporarily/partially.
C) comment #63 "blacklist i2c_i801" does not exist in
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
