Removing "quite splash" not work for me.
Upgrading kernel to 5.8.18-050818-generic, but not work.

My workaround is to install linux-4.4.8-willy.
It works to me.

Same problem, when i plug a second monitor with hdmi , system hang. Nothing
without reboot.
System : Ubuntu 16.04.
kernel : 4.4.0-22-generic
graphic : intel i915 (patched with intel graphic driver installer)
But using kernel 4.4.8 (from ubuntu kernel archive), it works fine.
