I think the graphics driver may be part of the problem, but it seems odd
that I am not able to shutdown the computer with ctrl-alt-del. If the
keyboard was still working as you hint at, shouldn't I able to do that?
Also, my Intel X40 has a intel graphics chip (Intel Extreme Graphics 2

On a clean install of Hardy Heron Alpha 5, upgraded to Alpha 6 with the
newest kernel in the repository -- this problem still exists. After
resume (from standby to RAM), the govenor is set to performance causing
the cpu frequency to stay at the maximum.

After a clean install of 8.04 x86 Alpha 5 (without bootloader), I
installed the grub package. When I run "sudo update-grub", I get the
following output:
Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub
Searching for default file ...
Also, if su-to-root should be used for gparted, why is it not used
consistently for other menu items? For example the Synaptic Package
Manager and the Hardware Drivers both use gksu.

This is still happening in Alpha 5. There should at least be a warning
or indication that this keybinding cannot be disabled unless integration
is turned off.

I believe these labels are simply wrong / misleading. Under Windows
there are two options called speed and acceleration. Speed dictates the
linear relationship between movement of mouse and cursor speed.
Acceleration makes the relationship non-linear. So rather than cursor
speed = mouse movement
