I'm seeing the same symptoms - from the KDM menu, I choose KDE, enter my password, click login. I see the KDE harddisk icon appear briefly (the first icon in the bar that usually shows ~4 icons serially fade in), then the screens go black for a second, and kick me back to the KDM login prompt. I'
