Note that the dmesg includes a connect/disconnect from the mediabase
somewhere in there, and the lspci was taken with the laptop undocked.
When I next have access to the mediabase (about 10h from no) I'll attach
another lspci.
I'm pretty sure it won't show anything of interest, but we'll see.

Same here, and it takes a ridiculously huge amount of time to gather

Most recently:
1:10 - Thunderbird crashes; system becomes sluggish.
1:13 - apport reports that thunderbird crashed, offers to report problem.
Accepted; apport begins gathering data and system becomes nearly unresponsive.

move around, but it's a lot more than the 1 pixel or so described in the

I think this is not a duplicate. The distinction I see is that bug
#40360 seems to be about simply changing the gnome proxy preferences
(only newly opened terminals will reflect the change, which is

Yes, I did. 8080 was the default value; I assumed it would be ignored
if the host was left blank. Further, using gconf-editor's "unset key"
action on /system/http_proxy/port sets it back to 8080
