Skype was working for me up to Ubuntu 13.04 64-bit then since upgrading to 
13.10 it started crashing silently. Especially when receiving or sending an 
instant message with a skype contact. The Skype UI app was freezing but the top 
bar icon was still active though pretty useless.
 
I have followed the suggestion in #44 by kanaifu about going to Skype Options > 
Sound devices and making sure that PulseAudio is used everywhere and then after 
all menu options disable the "allow skype to automatically adjust my mixer 
levels".

It was enabled and after disabling it now I see it works properly again.
No silent crash anymore.
