I attempted to upgrade 12.04lts to 12.10 as a stepping stone en route to
14lts. There were three 'error' messages during the upgrade to 12.10.

Same problem - Segmentation fault of Google Chrome and Chromium on libmoon.
Un-installed moonlight using synaptic and the problem has gone away.
Firefox was uaffected.

Bug confirmed on my system (AMD64).
In fileio.c :
In function save_thread, timenow is declared as char timenow[64];
In function save_remote, timenow is declared as gchar *timenow;
Declaring timenow as char timenow[64] in function save_remote fixes
the bug.
