This happens to me as well, though rather than just two or three new
tabs, it basically acts as a fork-bomb. I had to remove the executable
bit on the binary to stop it from running completely out of control.

I've got the same problem with a Phenom-quad desktop with the onboard
graphics as well as ati 3870.
-This applies to Both Kubuntu and Ubuntu 32 and 64 bit, fresh install
and all updates applied.
-The machine freezes at random, sometimes as soon as 20 seconds after
login, mostly inside 30 minutes
