I have this problem right now, but not when logging in, but much later (current
uptime is almost 4 days).
The accounts-deamon process is currently taking almost 4g of ram (I have 8g),
and it also consumed 100% of cpu in one core for several seconds.

This bug is probably related to #1070405
I did the following 2 things and don't have the problem anymore:
Removed gcc 4.4/4.5 and cpp 4.4/4.5 (only kept 4.6)
Replaced nvidia-current (295) with nvidia-current-updates (304).
Remember i have 2 different machines and the workaround worked on
both.

Hello Kristian, you have been bitten by bug #558961:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gallery2/+bug/558961
It is triggered simply by reinstalling gallery2 (has nothing to do with the
ppa). IIRC the workaround is to purge gallery2.

gallery2 2.3 php 5.3 incompatibility
I'm getting this when trying to install the gallery2 package (System
upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10):

I'm hit by this bug. Ubuntu 8.10 AMD64.
To reproduce: Install uim-qt, then run any qt4 app (such as vlc).
This causes the qt4 app to fill up all available memory and not display
anything at all. As soon as you remove uim-qt, the problem is gone.
Please update the uim-qt packages to version

No, this bug is still around. On a fresh install, it might sound fine.
Messing with alsa and the sound mixer eventually turns this problem and
its hell trying to set it right again.
I am sure there is a problem with alsa and alc861 and other Intel HDA
chipsets.
Somewhere sound amplification
I have this bug now using wine 0.9.53. It worked fine with 0.9.52.
Ubuntu64, Intel video. Another machine with nvidia works perfect using
the same software. Easy to reproduce, just use wine to run a 3d game.
Will try to downgrade to .52 if i manage to find the package...

Ok, just tried downgrading to 0.9.52 and it actually does the same. So
the culprit must lie elsewhere, must likely some recent update...

I can also confirm this bug. Just picking the generic kernel instead of

Oh, i have seen this since Edgy Eft Beta; just by pluging my digital

triggers it. To fix, i simply kill the nautilus process and remember
next time when importing pictures not to turn off the camera but wait
