I remove the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package then the upgrade works, from
Ubuntu 14.04 using i3wm.
Full set of commands:
$ apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
$ apt-get autoremove

$ do-release-upgrade

All Unity effects run slow on my computer . The Dash opens slow, the Unity
window switcher is very slow, too. I can say that all effects are to some
extent slow and making the system slow.
Running Raring Ringtale, GPU: ATI Radeon Xpress 1100, CPU: AMD Turion 64 Mobile
BUG SOLVED:
I tried x-org edgers and that fixed the bug.
These were the steps:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
After restarting, the bug was fixed.

I was having this problem with todays skype update
Ubuntu 13.04 64bit

After reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 skype is working again
$ sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx:i386

When I upgraded to Oneiric, upon first reboot I automatically chose the unity
2d desktop, not the default.
I set the whitelist to 'All'. Just a couple icons appeared, but not, for
instance, pidgin.
The other day I wanted to check out the default desktop environment, and
there it is: my pidgin
In my case, the Skype icon shows, and there's only a space between the
skype one and dropbox's one. The one in the middle should be pidgin's,
and it's there but invisible. I can click on it and interact.
Transmission-gtk is shown as well.
my whitelist setting via dconf includes Skype and Pidgin.
The distribution is faulty, not the download, please closed this ticket
