If you click the "Show details" button in synaptic during an update, you
can see the details displayed in a text window. The text can be
highlighted by click dragging the mouse. But you cannot copy any of the
text. If you try to copy and paste any text using Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V,
Worse still, typing Ctrl-C is interpreted as an interrupt and a warning
appears with the text:
"Ctrl-C pressed" "This will end the operation and may leave your system
in a broken state. Are you sure that you want to do that?"

Synaptic shows a Reload progress bar when you hit the Reload button. The
Reload progress bar is useless because it updates very unsmoothly. It
jerks backwards suddenly when starting the next repository. It moves

I can independently confirm there is ridiculously high CPU usage by any
recent version of firefox-{4-9,10} when displaying any videos.
I do not believe this is anything to do with video drivers because the
same problem occurs on very different CPUs such as Intel Atom N270 with

No, I just removed the ppa from the list of repositories and then
Reload, Mark Upgrades, Apply in succession in Synaptic, but that didn't
provide the Maverick version - it still gave the ppa version.
So, I choose Package, Force Version and manually selected the Maverick version

lack of support in Mint for more than VESA resolution on this pc; this
pc's chipset is so new, nobody has got linux+X running ok on it yet, but
I know the bug is being worked on by kernel and xorg devs.

Also I just noticed that any already opened webpage that attempts to do
a refresh at any time after the firewall is enabled gets stuck reloading
forever, and there are no log messages of any blocked packets on port
80. The page reloads fine on its next refresh if I disable the firewall.
