X server forces low refresh rates by default with no real way to edit them but
manually through xorf.conf.
Example:
If I navigate to my System/prefs/screen res I only see a tab with 50/55,
this has been tested with 5 computers, unless you manually
Please include your xorg details, uninstall compiz and try to reproduce
the issue.
