Seems params are incorrectly passed to the (deprecated) encoder in default use (ffmpeg version 0.8.3-4:0.8.3-0ubuntu0.12.04.1) Uncheck the default checked checkbox (in menu edit/preferences) "use ffmpeg instead of mencoder" should bypass the problem. The error dialog spit out by devede does not help either, complaining about mencoder being the issue, which it actually is not.
