Thank you for the quick answer.
I believe the main reason is that the documentation is basically absent for
overlayfs. I spent a lot of time trying to find some but I've only found bits
and pieces mainly describing at a general level how it works.
I doubt that it can give me the level of
apport information

Update manager prompted me that there are some updates available among
which vsftpd so I started the update but the process failed for vsftpd

repositories list a very old source. Once I've removed that everything

Actually, I think this can be closed as invalid. As I said in the
description this may be related to 621757 which is invalid as well
because I've discovered that I had in the repositories list a very old
source. Once I've removed that everything was ok.
