I've reproduced the reported issue, applied the fix as suggested to
packaging, and confirmed it resolves the issue. This was done using the
server-backports-experimental PPA. I've gone ahead and rolled out the

PR 433 appears to have landed in March, but there has not been a new
release yet. Tagging this server-todo for someone to examine for
applicability to backport for SRU, and to consider backporting for
kinetic if a new release isn't likely to be forthcoming this cycle.

The upstream bug #5055 mentions "This change has several overlapping
parts. Unfortunately, merging individual parts is both difficult and
likely to cause crashes." Indeed, it looks like several upstream
commits would need backported, involving a non-trivial amount of code
changes.
