I found a simple work around that simply avoids NetworkManager without removing it. I have not tried the workaround indicated above of deleting the auto eth0 configuration from Networkmanager's connections list and creating a new static configuration. Hi Pedro, I should have come back and closed it but neglected to do so. Sorry about that. The problem never recurred past the point where I instrumented npviewer.bin. I assume that the bug got swatted during the normal course of development, and an update installed the newer version on my systems.

I can confirm that the problem also effects the Acer Aspire 4720 w/ Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) and the ALC268. It's making me only a little crazy though, so I'm going to wait until the kernel revisions catch up. Thanks for everyone's hard work. -- No audi
