Upgrade from Xubuntu 13.10 64-bit to 14.04 64-bit
I just upgraded to 14.04 and I also have this problem. During the
upgrade, I received the above error multiple times. Here is an excerpt
from /var/log/apt/term.log:

The xpdf application will start if no PDF file is specified. However,
any attempt to load a file into the running app, including specifying a
PDF file on the command line causes an immediate core dump with the
following output:
