@bowser VLC actually uses vdpau, or at least this is what it says. In order to enable support just install the nvidia proprietary driver, vdpau* packages and in VLC (codecs tab iirc) enable GPU acceleration or something like that. Restart VLC and you'll see in debug it's loading and using vdpau
