Don't know. Tried again a few days later and the GNOME 3 desktop loaded
fine (just strained against my spare computer's feeble specs).
Presumably some update in the last week fixed whatever the cause of the
problem was.
If it crashes again I'll try the workaround. With effort going into
I think this is the same bug, but just in case it isn't: I installed the
GNOME 3 shell and attempted to log into a GNOME session straight from
the login screen. After parts of the desktop appeared, I got an error
report stating the GNOME desktop had crashed.

Checked Crack Attack and Extreme Tux Racer in Natty, both running fine
now. (Didn't check SuperTuxKart as the graphics engine for that game has

the drive that was trying function as a bootup disc for some reason.

Okay, I can add that when the wireless is disabled, you can safely
suspend and resume without the crash, so, yes, it looks like the
wireless driver is causing the crash.
I'll look into adding the relevant line to the relevant file, but any
chance of a permanent fix?

Okay, now instead of crashing, it's hanging indefinitely in the state
where that cloud has the exclamation mark, whether or not I do it from
the command prompt. As it's hanging instead of crashing, there's no
crash message or any other output to go on.
