I just had an update come through for firefox and I am no longer seeing
the behavior that I initially reported. I still don't have a symlink in
/etc/apparmor.d/disable/.
However, firefox appears to be functioning normally and I'm not getting
the warnings about failing to lock the back buffer, etc

Yes, this also fixed the problem with black windows for me. The problem
began immediately after upgrade from 18.04.

I downloaded the source and built the package myself with ddate enabled

Same dependency problem on Oneiric. I have Wine installed and can't
install lmms because it depends on wine1.2, whereas I have wine1.3
installed.

GNOME also properly resumes from suspend for me now. I suppose I can
try to switch UXA back on and see if problems return due to that.
Otherwise, I'm a bit at a loss for how to reproduce this bug.

I apologize for sloppiness here. I had enabled UXA acceleration a while
ago and forgot about that. I have disabled and will report back about
whether any problems persist. At least after running for a few hours
without UXA I am not seeing the screen glitches I mentioned before.

louisJ: I keep a logout applet in the upper right corner on my top
panel. I can always find this, even with a dark screen. Click once,
press down arrow twice to get to "logout" and then hit enter and I get
returned to a lit login screen.

BTW, I installed LXDE and have been using that lately
Apparently it's not necessary for me to reboot in all cases. I have
fixed the backlight condition by just logging out and back in again
twice today.

Well.. . after a couple of more tests it turns out that it's some other
factor as I am definitely seeing this behavior with both 2.6.28-11 and
2.6.28-13. I'll post back if I find anything new.
Everything works except for the backlight, it seems.

I am seeing the same behavior with the 2.6.28-14 kernel on a Eee PC
1000HEB. When resuming from suspend, the backlight does not turn on.
If I log out at this point I find myself at a lit log in screen.
However, logging in leads to non-working backlight again. Rebooting

I just discovered this bug today while connecting my Eee PC 1000 HEB to
an external monitor and "un-mirroring" the displays. Since the fix for
the other bug has been released I believe I am seeing this bug. The
phenomenology certainly fits. While connected to an external monitor:
