I get this as well - no hibernation is involved, it just seems to happen
at random, usually after several days of working normally. alsa force-
reload works for me too.

Just to confirm, re comment 20, installing the update from Maverick proposed
AND then removing the
omega.contacts.msn.com certificate via Tools-Certificates seems to have
resolved the problem.

Still does it for me, with Maverick, after updating to the version in
proposed:
cia...@timble:~$ apt-show-versions pidgin
pidgin/maverick-proposed uptodate 1:2.7.3-1ubuntu3.2
After the update, I closed pidgin and restarted it. The MSN connection
still has the same error re the invalid
Same problem here - same error message to the console when using VLC,
accompanied by audio dropouts. Similar audio dropouts occur in MythTV
front end.
May just be a coincidence, but...

Same here. Looking at top, the process that corresponds with the spikes
is kslowd.

In one way, this doesn't affect me because I don't use Evolution. In
another way, it affects me greatly because the fact that it's been done
makes me mistrust Ubuntu. What do I do now, either a) watch every single
future change to any packages I use in case someone thinks it's a good
idea to use

I also resolved this issue on three different machines by upgrading the
xserver-xorg-video-intel driver (via the xorg-edgers PPA). For others
affected, simplest solution (at your own risk!):
add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
Then log out and back in.
This would seem to be a duplicate #456279, or vice versa.
