Sorry, I assumed nothing was happening with this repost, so I
reinstalled last night.
There was basically NO partition table left on /dev/sda.
gpart had fatal errors trying to read it.
The disk in question was the original 20G disk, which had been
repartitioned several times & had quite a comple
