I have the same problem on my laptop until now :( I have an Acer Aspire
2026 with an ATI mobility radeon 9700.
I must use the vesa driver but the display is not correct : 1024x768 and my
screen is 1280x800...
If I use the ATI drivers the screen resolution is correct but the computer
freezes
Oh and btw, I tried to use the open source ati driver by configuring
xorg.conf, but it fails ! X freezes, and can't display anything... (just
the mouse cursor in the right resolution).
Well I was disappointed by Ubuntu 7.10, and I was waiting for 8.04
because it's a LTS, but it's even worse... I
I've just install hardy and the problem is STILL there !
BUT I've found why : Evolution at first start up ask for a time zone, that's
little strange because you do this at Ubuntu's install. But the time zone of
evolution is not the same as Ubuntu. (or Gnome's clock)

It's sad to say, but this version of Ubuntu is not fully functionnal !
F-spot is buggy like hell (with or without Compiz), Compiz causes some
flickerings on fullscreen app, Rhythmbox is buggy with fading between
Gutsy will be released today ! And a lot of bugs are still there...

Ok I found that the issue appear with AAC files and maybe other files
(from bad and/or ugly codec), but not mp3 or ogg files.

Because I didn't want to switch account to use F-Spot (even if there is
a new fast switch user), I have removed the conf folder of F-Spot in
~/.gnome2/f-spot
Now F-Spot starts... but slideshow and fullscreen doesn't work ! Need to
