No, the printer does nothing. As I explained, this is not a problem with
the connection as the test page prints fine and I can also print fine

After upgrading to the latest kernel version, I am unable to boot, and
receive just a blank screen. Removing the 'quiet splash $vt_handoff'
options (but keeping nomodeset, which I normally use), I get a flashing
cursor, but nothing else. I can boot into recovery mode and
I can't tell, as I jumped straight from 0-15 to 0-17, and 0-16 isn't
available from apt-get. Is there another way to install the 0-16 kernel
from the repositories?

I found a workaround for the problem on my second machine: after getting
the boot menu to show up, I found that booting to the prior kernel
version instead of the current kernel version makes everything work
fine. In other words, instead of booting the default:

I believe I have found a workaround for my problem, and I'm hoping that
not only will this help other people work around it also, but it may
help developers track down the bug. What I did was enable the grub2
bootup menu that is hidden by default. Apparently Ubuntu 9.10 uses a
new bootloader
I am having a very similar problem with Ubuntu 9.10. About 2 out of 3
times when I log in, I see the graphics screen change quickly to a black
text-only screen, then I see some kind of text (maybe an error message)
print too quickly to read, then it pops right back to the graphical

I have just had my bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305526) marked a
duplicate of this one. For me, the NVidia drivers and nvidia-common are
already installed.

I haven't tried Fiesty at all.
I have now reverted to Dapper (6.06) - clean install, and haven't had
the problem with Totem in this version to date.

Totem has been crashing regularly - or worse still causing a system lock
that I have to crash out of by resetting the computer. Alt-F2 and
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace didn't work, so no crash files were generated.
