I have same problem although mine did use 1280 x 789 at first. Now it
offers 800 x 600 and 640 x 480.. Does it without changes being made,
and some times a reboot cures it, but only sometimes

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: totem
no other programs running in background except tomboy notes. Windows
machine also idle except for totem access to avi file.
No error message given, totem just closes down. Can play mp4 in same
location without a problem.

I just ran totem via the command line - got illegal instruction - core
dumped.

Just tried to run the same file from my desktop on totem machine. Same
result. File plays fine in vlc from desktop and from other computer.
