I can confirm this bug. Up to Kernel 2.6.27-10 backlight dimming of my
Lenovo Thinkpad R500 was ok. After update to 2.6.27-11 it was broken.
Starting with previous kernel in Grub the dimming was working.

I recently updated to Kubuntu 8.04 with Kernelversion 2.6.24-19. Today
I switched back to my internal Marvell controller and I will test its
behaviour. I just downloaded an Kubuntu Image with no problems, so it
might be that in Kernel 2.6.24-19 the problem is already fixed.

I installed Kubuntu 20070409 daily image. Installation stops first time during
this installation by network interrupt. I've got a second Realtek PCI-LAN card
installed so I switched to this one and everything was fine.
After installation I
I tested the 20070406 image and the boot was perfect. The installation

I tried this with Kubuntu Feisty Fawn Herd 5 and Beta with same result. I did
not test the alternate CD.
It seems to me a like the Bug #84964 where something is wrong with the SATA
drivers. But status of this Bug is fix released?
