Well, all I can add is that, so far, LibreOffice is the _only_
application that seems to trigger the problem. Just to be clear, it is
not an issue when the application launches but during the use of the
application - it seems to be triggered when working with embedded
graphics/frames in a
hmm - well, I use inkscape quite a bit, have not had the problem happen
- Opera I don't use at all..so maybe.

Looks like a go-oo issue, most likely.
Ubuntu 10.04 (AMD64) go-oo 3.2.1 (proposed) - #FAIL zero
Using Ubunu 10.04 Studio AMD64bit- Nvidia (non-free drvier) - Visual
effects=None
I can not reproduce any type of flicker after repeated attempts w/
format, etc enabled.

You can open .doc files under FF also - but not with the default
installation. (Ok - so which added packages do you need to
install...good question - I can't remember if it is the legacy file
formats or the HTML conversion routines - let me try to nail that down
and report back.
