I did have Make the messages in my Inbox available when I am working
offline checked, but I am not out of disk space.
I also narrowed down the problem somewhat.
On the mail server I moved all of my weekend mail out of ~/Maildir/cur
this morning (9000+ messages) into ~/tmpmail, then deleted the

Looks like this was an fglrx problem. I installed the ATI driver from
source, following the instructions on:

After that lock screen works correctly.

Screen saver logs out
With the new ATI Catalyst 7.11 driver installed:
* Ctrl-Alt-L locks the screen correctly.
* The screen saver works, starting up after the time-out period and locking
the screen when lock screen is checked.
* 3D effects work.
However:

is checked.
Ctrl-Alt-L (lock screen) also logs out rather than locking the screen.

The screen saver also logs out when lock screen is NOT checked. Looks
like the screen saver may just be crashing X and returning to gdm login.
