thanks for the hints.
I tried the workaround of disabling secure boot and it did not panic and
the system started.
But I would like to keep secure boot enabled, note that booting 19.10
with the Kernel linux-image-5.0.0-29-generic from 19.04 works properly.

+1, same issue here after upgrading from 19.04 to 19.10 (development).
This is the same spec machine that is listed above: Thinkpad X1 Carbon 7
gen.
note: Kernel panic is before the system asks for SSD password.

Trying ubuntu sugar packages, gave an error. The reason for that error is as

Looks like the Ubuntu package python-hulahop still contains Python 2.5

I'm using an updated Ubuntu Intrepid, and using Intrepid sugar packages,
and still don't see any AP's in the neighborhood. Could it be because I
use the bcm43 chipset which I use with ndiswrapper?

I don't think that gconf is a solution, old linux users know how to
fix it or give an special option, but would be good make the things a
bit easy for the other ones... not all laptops are so faster...

I think leaving it at ondemand is the solution. It will switch to full
performance when the system is busy, so users will get the performance
they expect from their hardware. Anyone who actually wants to change it
will already know what cpu scaling is and won't be scared of gconf, surely?
... this is not a problem for geeks...

If they don't know about it, they won't care about it because ondemand
will make their CPU fast when they need it.
If they bought a 2.0GHz CPU laptop, ondemand just will going to scale
to 2.0 as were necessary, if I'm opening openoffice or something
similar, are u sure that ondemand will
If we have our AC plugged we would like to use the max performance of
our laptop, here' s a very simple patch.

Ok, some knowledgable people in #ubuntu told me that initrd.img is
regenerated at the installation of a package, and not included in it
(makes sense since it will link to modules, etc).
