I still have this problem; it happens when recovering from suspend but
also sometimes upon booting... booting in recovery mode and then resume
and manually booting *kdm* seems to work as workaround...

I had a go at making a patch, but my packaging knowledge is a bit rusty,
and originating from way beyond Ubuntu seeing the light...
I have uploaded to my PPA [0] and no errors from dput, but it does not
show up yet. Attached is the .diff.gz, but I just noticed that I did not
remove the backup

I got the same for KDE. BTW. GNOME does show up for me, in full screen
mode.
