Thanks. We managed to solve the issue by uninstalling and re-installing
1.2.1-0ubuntu2 (ubuntuone-client-gnome) using apt.
This fixed the problem right away.

Ubuntu One fails to connect, both from the application bar Connect menu
option, and from the Nautilus folder Connect button. Neither displays any
kind of error, and the icon continues to have a little red [x] on it.
