at the moment it even stays open at times when it should not, no matter
how many times you click on the application you are working in, so it is
definitely more than distracting already. you've gotta click on the

I believe it might be because you are not connected to any networks. It
does exhibit that behaviour where only when connecting/connected to
networks it shows up. plug in an ethernet cable to your laptop and maybe
a switch/another pc and see if the nm-applet appears

I think the autohide behaviour for nm-applet in ubuntu natty (perhaps maverick
too) needs to be disabled. I have noticed that when a 3G modem is plugged in,
the applet doesn't automatically reappear to say there are any connections
available. the only way to 'wake' it up to reappear seems

after the error, i manually removed the old grub.cfg from /boot/grub and

1. if i8042.noloop is NOT passed as an option in grub, then the touchpad does
NOT work.

i've got all my packages updated. so that means i should have all the
maverick release packages. i've also got proposed updated enabled.
anyway, i'll test again with the existing options by taking out the
i8042.noloop setting. and then will do so with the mainline kernel which
i see is 2.6.33-rc8

its a problem with how wget gets its proxy settings when invoked by apt
or synaptic, etc. not a problem in the flashplugin package. i have the
same problem when wine or b43 firmware is installed as both these
after setting global proxy settings in network proxy, also edit
/etc/wgetrc and add a line http_proxy =
http://username:passw...@host:port
edit the file as root obviously. everything then seems to work :)

well here's why it makes no sense -
1. most normal users need flash e.g. youtube
2. in lucid they can comfortably set the global proxy as well as the synaptic
proxy.
3. so how do you expect that normal user to go edit /etc/wgetrc to make flash
work?
