this bug, and I hadn't had time to try it out.
I am now on 14.10, using EFI boot with grub2 2.02~beta2-15 and the
symptoms have not changed except that the screen where the menu *would*
appear is now solid purple, instead of
OK. 3.16.0-29 seems to be much better, but I just experienced the same
symptoms as for the logs (I believe) referred to in comment 77 above;
specifically, the machine lost association with the AP and could not
reestablish. Removing and reinserting the iwlmvm and iwlwifi modules
fixed the problem

I find that a restart solves the issue. (sudo apt-get install trousers - exit

That is the same conclusion I came to at the time, that it made no
sense. I wondered if linux-firmware didn't change somewhere in there.
As I recall, 3.13 uses the -8 firmware, and 3.15 used the -9, and I

minutes to several hours to emerge; I will almost certainly see wifi
dropouts in the next few hours, but it may or may not lose association

1) I can no longer *ever* see a boot menu, on either cold boot or
reboot, during the normal boot sequence.

After reading this thread I looked throught settings menu in XFCE4 and
launched the Keyboard Input Methods control panel. Right there you can
delete the key binding in the GUI, which is used to toggle between input

I can't build the package, either on Linux 3.8.0-25-generic. This bug is very
irritating, I don't have an external SD card reader, and need photos off my
card. I can't find ANY fix out there for this on Ubuntu 13.04. Downgrading is
not an option, as when I downgrade other things on my laptop
dmesg also shows the error -110 for me here. 8Gb SD card _and_ 16Gb
microSD card in an adaptor that came with the card. It's very strange.

The issue with my screen flashing got so bad I had to downgrade back to
12.10 and the 3.5 kernel. I'm still having issues with the external
monitor switching configurations (resolution, position, and mirror-
displays switches every several minutes).

I just upgraded to Ubunto 13.04 with kernel 3.8.0-19, and this problem seems to
have returned.
Modifiying the line in Grub to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash
acpi_osi= , as suggested in comment #36 does not help. Instead, the OS boots
into an unlit screen.

I've had this bug since Ubuntu 12.04 and have battled with it for 8+
months.
Originally, switching from 11.10 to 12.04, I experienced bad screen
flickering (3-45 seconds between flickers) and could not find the issue.
I was also not able to run multiple monitors because when

Having this issue too, on Fedora though, so it's certianly upstream from you.
Have the issue worst when playing Minecraft (often, not recoverable), also
happens on TF2 on Steam Linux, though in that case it's recoverable. Not seeing
anything odd in Xorg.0.log, but i've got this from my dmesg:
