There is an option in the layout tab of the keyboard layout indicator
that is checked by default new windows use active window's layout.
Unchecking it does not make new windows use the default layout.

I'm on Lucid. Sorry, forgot to mention. The dialog warns about some of
the items, gnome-session and gnome-panel are not on the list as well as
a few other packages. Also, it might be a good idea to mark these gnome
packages as essential. So that users who don't know what these packages
do, don't

gnome-panel, gnome-session etc. When removing the package in software-
center, the software-center does not notify about removing these
packages, nor does it disallow

Are you paying the developers in any way? No? Then what right do you
have to whine? The bug is low priority - not many people use pppd
nowadays. If you can offer a fix for it, I'm sure the devs will accept
it, if not, well you can always use a different distro or even a
different OS altogether.
Actually it's the other way around. Setting NO_NEW_FAIR_SLEEPERS
improves interactivity.

The loop device currently is compiled into the kernel. This limits the
options when using it. For example it's impossible to use partitions in
a disk image (by setting the max_part option) nor is it possible to
change the number of loop devices while the kernel is running.
for me 'hciconfig hci0 pscan' didn't work - the tool reported hci0 to be
busy, so preceding it with 'hciconfig hci0 restart' solved the problem

X11 crashes to console when switching from ac to battery and the other
way araund and keeps crashing when gdm restarts it. Disabling acpid
somewhat solves this problem.
