Here are the steps I took before GIMP crashed:
1. Paste jpg image (891 × 891 pixels) from the clipboard.
2. Changed its size to 284 × 284 pixels.
3. Highlighted the area of 284 × 200 pixels.
4. Copied the selected area.
5. Created a new image from the clipboard.
6. Launched
