I've collated multiple patches for gpart and just a few days ago got a
patch to add btrfs support. I released 0.3 with this new support.
Hopefully it will go into Debian at some point in the near future and
from there can flow to Ubuntu as well.

the XAA workaround solved it.
now i did a new install of xubuntu 10.04. and it seems this bug is gone.

I just wanted to rectify Jay's statement about BigTIFF support in
libtiff. BigTIFF support will appear in libtiff 4.0, and not in 3.9.0.
BigTIFF support requires ABI changes (the toff_t typedef is increased to
be 64bit instead of 32bit), so it couldn't make into the 3.X branch of
libtiff.
