Try the hpijs driver. Using this driver I've no problems printing duplex
from OpenOffice.

Hi Pascal,
choosing a PCL based driver is definitively the better choice. Finally, the
hpijs driver seems to work for me (incl. duplex printing)!

I tried printing from an installed kubuntu dapper. Following your
instructions, this is what I've tested so far:
Scenario 1a):
Using the recommended HL-5150D Foomatic/Postscript driver with Double-Sided
Printing set to Long Edge (Standard) via the system
Unfortunately it hasn't been fixed in the actual dapper release...
