Public bug reported:

Hardware:
Laptop: Compaq 2209CL Windows XP Home
Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN
Linksys EtherFast® Wireless Access Point + Cable/DSL Router with
4-Port Switch BEFW11S4
Problem description: Unable to obtain access to my previously (Windows XP)
established wireless network & Internet. In Windows XP my laptop has an on/off
button for wireless access(light on/off)…this still works after Ubuntu 7.04
install ONLY with Windows XP. I have tried numerous attempts: System >
Administration > Network > Network Settings to configure to my network
name/password/IP address data. All attempts have failed. I have used the
Applications > Accessories > Terminal routine with the command
lspci _v | less and see what I believe to be the driver for my wireless device:
        02:06.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g
                        Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company unknown device 12f8
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 64, IRQ 11
Memory at e0200000 (32 bit, non prefectchable) [size+8K]
Admittedly I am a ‘newbe’ to Linux and may be missing something but I have come
to the conclusion that there may be a BUG causing my problem with the Broadcom
802.11b/g WLAN device The Unbunto OS aparantly is not recognizing the device.
My apologies in advance if this is not a BUG issue but my lack of understanding
of the OS.
