It happened to me as well using the xubuntu daily-live 20070109.
Using self.new_size_scale instead new_size_scale seems to fix this.

Rejecting the bug for edgy.
Using a default configuration file for these desktop icons has been made
possible thanks to the recent xfdesktop commits in the Xfce svn. We won't
update the xfdesktop package in edgy, so there is no way to solve the show/hide
icons problem with x-default-settings in

We use a specific cdbs class for all the xfce packages, so a sync is not the
