So, updating my BIOS, sadly, did not fix the problem. The result was
exactly the same. I suspend the laptop, then resume it. The machine
resumes from suspend in every respect except that it doesn't turn the
backlight on the screen back on.
With the new BIOS, the output of `sudo dmidecode -s
I can confirm that I experience exactly the same issue using Juju with
MAAS and nodes all under KVM.

CPU #1, #2 and #3 report that they are softlocked by the migration

Just confirming the same behaviour on a thinkpad E525. It is true that
the behaviour feels somewhat different on the built in trackpad than on
my Filco USB trackpad, but I think perhaps that this is perhaps
cognitively clumsy too.
