This bug report is highly confusing, so let me state this more clearly:
the plymouthd process is still running at the point where
/etc/init.d/umountroot is run in the shutdown process, and it is holding
some rw file descriptor stopping / from being remounted ro, thus causing
an unclean shutdown

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: w3c-dtd-xhtml
On 2008-02-04, Ubuntu (in the person of one Onkar Shinde) made a change
to the package w3c-dtd-xhtml over the Debian version 1.1-5 of it,
creating version 1.1-5ubuntu1, in order to install files such as xhtml-
lat1.ent in the directory
I believe the attached patch fixes the problem. At least, I'm sure it
makes validate work correctly on XHTML 1.0 files, and I'm pretty sure it
can't do any harm.

The attached gai.conf file prioritizes native IPv6 over IPv4. The

Note: this bug may be related to bug #673708 in that the latter also
reports an inconsistent and unpredictable order of IPv6 and IPv4 as
returned by getaddrinfo() (except that that bug concerns AI_PASSIVE
whereas this one concerns active queries), and also the testing host had
Attaching a more informative strace dump (with -s4096, so the nameserver
replies and program output don't get cut off). Seems I can't replace or

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: tracker-gui
The tracker search tool steals a keyboard shortcut (control-alt-s, or
control-meta-s, depending on precise keyboard layout/config) that is
used by Emacs. This would be fine if it were possible to disable it in
System → Preferences → Keyboard
Sorry, my mistake: problem was completely elsewhere (interface address
being periodically deprecated, and therefore - correctly - sorted below
IPv4 as per RFC3484 rules). Marking bug as invalid.

How can I revert to the previous (pre-Lucid) behavior? (I have much
better connectivity through IPv6 than through a painfully NATed IPv4. I
assume this is fairly typical, in fact.) Is it just a matter of
uncommenting the following lines in /etc/gai.conf or will this have
undesired side effects?
