I'm running Ubuntu Karmic standalone Openbox sessions and Gnome
sessions. The fix in comment #38/39 WFM in both Openbox and Gnome if I
add 'alsactl restore &' to ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh (for Openbox)
AND 'alsactl restore' to /etc/rc.local (for Gnome). Now I have unmuted
sound ready-to-go no

The workaround in comment #1 does _not_ work for me. I'm running Openbox
without a desktop environment in Ubuntu Karmic. Seeing similar behavior
to the bug description in that the OSN appears saying my (wireless)
connection has been established before the splash screen has stopped
running.
