I booted up Ubuntu 8.10 kernel 2.6.27-11 generic (recovery mode) then
opened firefox. I assume thats what you wanted me to do ? Well I still have
the same problem when trying to create a new account.

Well I finally figured out how to start Firefox in the safe mode.
I entered the following in the terminal
/usr/lib/firefox -safe-mode
And it still hung up
printing out the following message
transferring data from image.providesupport.com...

Thank you, it seems to work when I set the res to 1280 X 1024 but it
doesn't hold it when I reboot even though I hit the apply and reset buttons.
Its only good in the session I'm in when I set the res.

Thank you for pointing out the duplication. I tried the work around,
seting session to xfce4 at logon and making it the default and it seems to

product line that may be good enough for text and such. For some
reason, they all seem to think that the default page size
is A4, and you have to change it back to Letter after you
set it up. Go figure.
