Hello,
I tried to activate xinerama while compiz is active again with alpha 3
of Ubuntu 10.4.
When I deactivate clone mode in gnome-display-properities the screen
become black. However, the pointer of the mice is visible and I can move
the pointer on both screen (so xinerama seems to work). On
I've made a screenshot, too, where you see the described line. Hope this
helps.

Don't know why X crashes - I have only played solitaire :)
However, X crashed a few times in the last days.
Maybe it is useful to know that xinerama was running and compiz was
disabled.

an external 1280*1024 LCD.
Compiz runs well in clone mode, also xinerama works when compiz is disabled.

I recognized this bug, too - I wanted to open a glade-file in anjuta, and it
gives the error:
