This has been fixed upstream for over a year, but only in svn[1] since
the last xqf release was in 2006. A patch is at the linked Debian
report.

That's not a fix, but a workaround. Have you reproduced the problem with
Jaunty? What do you mean by maximum? You say it slowly eats memory;
how much per minute, for example? Have you observed 100% CPU usage?
