I am facing the same problem on the Swisscom network. New MMS messages are
re-delivered daily for up to seven days. Text messages alone work fine.

Addition: It seems it has something to do with the gnome-settings-
daemon, because I had kicked it out of the auto - start and got that
bug exactly every time I logged in.

I've to acknowledge that bug running on karmic 32bit.
A first possibility to correct that phenomen, you can try this:
click with right mouse-button on your desktop - change wallpaper (in
German it is 'Hintergrund der Arbeitsfläche ändern'; last entry). Then
you've to quit nautilus (nautilus -q)
