This error is still persisting in ubuntu 14.04.2
Confirm that this bug just appeared with 2015-01-27 updates. I had not
noticed it before. If one does not have the presence of mind to hit the
Enter key, they could be stuck at the log in.

Understood. But then what are users who would like to install both
packages to do? It is an expensive fix to buy a new video card.

Just installed Vivid 15.04 and discovered that this bug is still there.

vice versa. I thought the wine project and AMD would have

Hi, folks. Tried Intrepid Alpha 6 today. Discovered that the scanner is
seen fine *only* if you acquire root privileges via sudo first, i.e.,
sudo scanlimage -L finds the scanner fine. So it looks like a
permissions thing that a few well-written udev rules would fix. Seems we
go through this
Hi, Leann. Well, just did my first reccy with the latest Alpha 5 build
of Intrepid. Glad to report that the problem with the Epson 2450 scanner
has completely disappeared. In fact, it runs like a scalded cat on my
USB 2.0 bus. So it looks like it was a kernel bug all along. Who'd a
thunk it??
Hauppage VCR chip. Trying to scan through this results in a nice kernel
crash :)

Jack,
Yes I agree with you. I don't think it will make any difference at all.
In my experience, the only way you are going to get this model to work
is with USB1.1 or firewire.
As you have Gutsy installed you'd be better
