2011-02-01 Thread James Valentine
First class work: thank you for the very clear instructions. For reference, no reboot is necessary. Complete the build and install steps, then: killall gpilotd killall gpilot-applet (and allow it to reload when prompted) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

[Bug 554431] Re: Bluetooth is disabled. Pressing Turn on bluetooth not working

2010-11-04 Thread James Valentine
Rather than rebooting (I hate restarting my session), this worked for me: sudo modprobe -r btusb sudo modprobe btusb You might also want to try this before those commands: sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart -- Bluetooth is disabled. Pressing Turn on bluetooth not working

[Bug 111460] Re: acpi misreports temperature, shuts down laptop

2007-09-20 Thread James Valentine
I'll try not to make this a me-too post, but my Clevo M121W has exhibited this fault from Breezy to Gutsy. Some kernel upgrades solve it, but most of the time, I recompile the kernel without the THERMAL acpi module. This, I assume, leaves the thermal protection up the BIOS. Here is a forum post I

[Bug 94862] Re: kernel 2.6.20-xx incorrectly claims processor overheating

2007-09-20 Thread James Valentine
In my opinion, bug #22336 is _not_ related. That talks about actual overheating, whereas what we are experiencing here is alleged overheating when the hardware is cool. Closer matches would be: * #94862: kernel 2.6.20-xx incorrectly claims processor overheating * #111460: acpi misreports

Public bug reported: In the process of discovering I had the Edgy swap bug - https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+bug/66637 I tried installing the stock Firefox 2.0 from mozilla.com into /opt to see if that reduced the drive access and lockups. I am now using that new version successfully.
