I tried to install the driver for my video card suggested by Ubuntu but
it gave me an error. Also the installation window is hanging!

If I open Guake I get:
/etc/zsh/zshrc:12: unknown parameter: terminfo
echo $TERM returns an empty string and many keys (backspace, home, end,
...) dosn't work correctly. Setting TERM to xterm fixes the issue
Purge and reinstall guake doesn't help but Michael's tip fixed the
problem for me.

This issue is device-mapper related rather than lvm. My /tmp partition
is encrypted vie dm-crypt (luks) with a random key at boot time and I
have the same problem, that the machine hangs at boot time. Uncommenting
the /tmp partition from fstab helps to boot the system. Todays updates
didn't change

After updatin from kernel 2.6.24-24 to 2.6.24-25 kvm stops working. It crashes
after about 30 seconds. Same problem with 2.6.24-26 and both the generic and
server images.
Dmesg shows some kernel errors. I will append them
